Overheard on the hospital wards.

Term: Sick-as-hell anemia.  Noun.  Disease state, congenital blood disorder.  As in, “I’ve got this disease, called sick-as-hell anemia.  Sometimes my joints hurt.  Sometimes I get a painful chest.”

Translation: Sickle-cell anemia.

Term: Smiling Mighty Jesus.  Noun.  Infectious Disease.  As in, “They diagnosed her with the Smiling Mighty Jesus disease.  They stuck a needle in her back and now she’s on the antibiotics. ”

Translation: Spinal Meningitis.
